Bathroom Ceiling Light with Fan: How to Choose

All small and crowded rooms need to have a good way of venting out humid and hot air into the environment, while receiving cold and clean outside air. When it isn’t that important for large rooms, especially with windows that may be opened, this comes into place when speaking about bathrooms.

As most houses save up available room for something else, like a bedroom, and leave small leftovers for the bathroom (even more so in flats), those baths end up being very tight. Also, there are almost always no windows in such rooms, hence no natural light.

So how do you save up on space and fit the ventilation and the light in the same place, in the same time? The answer is a bathroom ceiling fan with the light mounted into it.

What is it?

The ceiling fan is a small device installed in the ceiling of your bathroom, that serves as an “exhaust” for your room.

For example, let’s say you’ve just showered. You’ve probably used a load of hot water, and heated up the air around you by quite a margin. Thus, you need to use the fastest and most efficient way of air-cooling, the vent. But without it, the only means of transporting air out of the room would be through a door and/or window (if it exists). Even if you have a vent connected to the bathroom, without the fan that air is going to be still and won’t move anywhere.

Moreover, fans with lights are a very good and efficient combination – it saves up more space and work, and also turns both on when you flick a single switch. On the other hand, it doesn’t look very good and may be a bad detail in your design (unless there’s enough place to close the thing with a grate).

How to Choose

Choosing the ceiling vent fan is quite straight-forward:

  • Just in case, make sure that you are looking for a combination of lights and the fan itself.
  • Choose the device depending on the size and capacity of your bathroom. For example, you don’t need a large and loud fan with side length of 1 meter to operate in 2×2 bathroom. It will be very inefficient. On the other hand, you can’t do anything with a small fan in a large room.
  • If possible, try to find the best fitting fan cover for the room. It is never a bad thing to at least try it, even if you won’t find anything.
Warning! Don’t go for a low quality fan, as they may cog up faster and stop working. Better choose some popular and good brands, like Panasonic, Air King and others.

In the end, venting the air out of your bathroom is very important, and sometimes there’s no other way of doing it, other from using the fan.

And what better way to save up space would there be, if not to combine it with a light. This is the main reason why you would see the ceiling fans in flats, hotels and simple baths – they are cheap, simple and effective.

If you want to spend more and choose some better design, or a better quality – you should surely go for it. After all, thank you for reading and good luck.
